Yes, there are some specific games that do not run under Windows 7, but the reasons are varied and complex and often have nothing to do with the fact that they use an older version of DirectX. You pretty much need Windows 95/98/Me to play a lot of those games. It's just a pain to get many older DirectX games to work in modern Windows. Klingon Honor Guard doesn't work with crap for me in Windows 7 either, although I can run it in Windows XP Mode. Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is horrible under Windows 7 圆4 on my computer, and completely unplayable in Windows XP Mode because the mouse goes crazy (impossible to aim). I'm just politely, respectfully asking for All Sega PC games are unplayable on Windows NT-based operating systems (although there is a patch for Sonic CD). I also don't expect the devs to support Windows 95. I understand that DOSBox is for playing DOS games, not running Windows 95. Has anyone successfully managed to get 256 or more colors in Windows 95 in DOSBox?įinally, let me say that I come in peace. I also tried to install Scitech Display Driver 7.0.0.340 Beta, but it dies with an illegal operation message. I have tried installing the various S3 drivers that come with Windows 95, as well as legacy drivers from S3's website, without success. I have no trouble installing SoundBlaster 16 sound in DOSBox, but video is limited to 16 colors. Success! Years of effort have finally been rewarded! Installation in DOSBox still fails at the very end of the installation process, but I was able to install it in Bochs, and I was able to boot the image in DOSBox by adding the line "device emm386.exe frame=e000" in config.sys, per wd's advice. Today, with great joy, I acquired the original Windows 95 installation CD. Those who claimed to be running Windows 95 in DOSBox seemed to indicate that only Windows 95A could run in DOSBox, whereas I had only Windows 95B and C. Installation in DOSBox would always fail, and Win95 images created in other emulators would never load. I tried to get Windows 95 to work in DOSBox for several years without success. It would be greatly appreciated, and thanks.I hate to create a new thread, but the most appropriate thread to bump ( Windows 95 in DOSBox with 256 Colors, Sound, and CD-ROM support) was locked. Has anyone else found away around this bug? Or some kind of program that can fix this? Generally, I like VMware better, I like its interface and functionality, but I don't like this problem on supported Operating systems, and I view it as a bug, that doesn't appear to be getting fixed. I thought that this might have been virtualization problem, but clearly Parallels, proved that wrong, and it seems that it is a VMware problem. This is not necessary a Apple/Mac problem, because there are a number of other third party applications that can run programs that run in 256 color mode properly, including: Windows XP, 98, 95 with VMware tools installed cannot enable or use 256 color depths, screen goes black, virtual machine becomes unusable, eventhough it is a display option. If the older operating system is supported, so should be some of the required color depths. Yes, I know that these are "ancient" operating systems, doesn't mean I don't have some older software, or archiving, or games I wish to run off them. On many macs, especially macbooks, there is no option for 256 colors, as this support has been removed by apple. I know that this has already been mentioned here, and I have already sent this in as a product enhancement request, in this case fixing the bug.

There was this one song that we created, called 'Public Enemy Number One', which was kind of like a battle answer to one of the rappers who said we couldn't get down we couldn't make no records and we couldn't DJ. "We were heard within such a small bandwidth, only in the southern part of Queens, but that meant people like Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons got a chance to hear the show. "We were the first ones to create the mix concept for rap records,” Shocklee asserts. Together they mixed some proto‑hip‑hop dub‑plates that helped increase the local popularity of Stephney's night‑time show, and this in turn led to Shocklee and Ridenhour getting their own spin‑off, The Super Special Mix Show in January 1983. Born Carlton Ridenhour, Chuck had been studying graphic design at Adelphi University on Long Island and DJ'ing at the student radio station WBAU when he and programme director/DJ Bill Stephney hooked up with Shocklee on the basis of their mutual interest in rap and politics. Photo: Steve Double/Retnaĭuring the early '80s, Shocklee recruited Chuck D to be his Spectrum City MC. Public Enemy was basically an experiment to see what we could get across.” Public Enemy Number Oneįlavor Flav and Chuck D with Security Of The first World, 1988. They were about what I had instilled in him. The early PE records were purely designed for communication, and Chuck D's lyrics were influenced by me. "With rap, you have more words to get across your ideas,” he says, "and that was more appealing to me than singing, because with singing you can only hint at the ideas. Still, it was rap with which Shocklee became infatuated even before the term 'hip‑hop' had been coined, and his burgeoning socio‑political awareness was a driving force behind Public Enemy. Working in a heavy metal record store, he acquainted himself with the likes of Megadeth, Twisted Sister, the Scorpions, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, which further broadened his musical knowledge while teaching him to be versatile. Creating his own Spectrum City sound setup, he took whatever gigs came his way. When, during the early‑'70s, a musician friend who lived next door hooked up a turntable to his band's PA, Shocklee was amazed by the sheer volume of what he heard, and listening to the huge sound systems of the major DJs whom he followed around Manhattan then resulted in him opting for the same profession. Still, never did I know that I would ever get involved with making records.” "Music has always been a backdrop to my life,” he says, "and my dad's fascination with the equipment, wiring the entire house with speakers that were connected to multiple amplifiers, led to me fiddling around with electronics, tearing apart speakers and amps to see what makes them tick. But when you can communicate and move people around the world there's another element that's happening.” Early LearningĪ Long Island native, Shocklee grew up during the 1960s listening to the jazz that was piped into every room of the family home by his audiophile father, the African music that he was introduced to by his concert pianist mother (who also coached him on the keyboard), the reggae played by his West Indian grandmother and the soul records that he heard at his cousins' place in Harlem. "Forget about all the bells and whistles, the beads and socially conscious rhymes - everybody can do that. "It was underrated in its ability to communicate,” he continues with regard to the hardcore‑politico outfit. Known for his sonically distinctive production style that introduced raucous, multi‑textured rap, rock and punk sounds to the hip‑hop records of LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane and EPMD, it was Shocklee's work with Public Enemy that helped elevate the genre to unprecedented heights while transporting the entire pop music scene into previously uncharted territory. "One of the things that's amazing to me is the fact that, over 22 years since Public Enemy were formed, I can still do an interview and people will know about a group that really didn't sell a lot of records,” says Hank Shocklee. Hank Shocklee's collaboration with Public Enemy brought a new aggression to hip‑hop - both sonically and politically.įlavor Flav knows what time it is. 6/19/2023 0 Comments Mechanism for running a timepieceThey instead have something called a: KINETIC ELECTRICITY STORAGE UNIT (KINETIC E.S.U.), an energy storage unit that is completely different than conventional batteries. No, kinetic watches do not have batteries. This “sleep mode”, look a lot like when automatic watches stop, but with the kinetic watch, you’ll have an energy reserve on top of that. If the watch, against all odds, stops running, just shake it about and it’ll start again. This is when the two weeks – six months will kick in. Kinetic watches will usually go into “sleep mode” if they’re not used for 72 hours. The kinetic watch can last anywhere from two weeks to six months. It runs on active motion, energy from your daily activities and everyday dynamics. If we relate this to the kinetic movements inside a timepiece, it makes sense. “of or relating to the motion of material bodies and the forces and energy associated therewith”, The kinetic movement definition from Merriam-Webster is as follows: In short, the kinetic watch mechanism (or movement) in the watch is what turns motion energy into stored energy.īut what advantages does this come with? And how does it affect running time? Read more about that below. The movement is what’s inside a watch (an automatic watch contains automatic movements and so on for all kinds of watches), and this is what keeps it running. Kinetic watches contain kinetic movement. So, which one should you buy? That’s up to you. The kinetic watch will also be more precise – but it’s not as prestigious. Where an automatic watch is powered by a wound spring (the mainspring) and based on mechanical movement, a kinetic watch is powered by the capacitator and the quartz mechanism/movement.Īn automatic watch won’t last as long as a kinetic watch, which is one of the big pros of buying a kinetic watch instead of an automatic one. That said, there are some key differences to the build of the two types of watch movements. After all, they both run on energy created by your movement. We understand if you might be a bit confused, as the two are very similar. Now that we understand what a kinetic watch is, and how these kinetic watches work, we have another question to answer:Īutomatic vs kinetic watches, which one is the better movement, and what is the difference? This technology combines elements from automatic watches and quartz watches to achieve the best of both worlds: keep a watch running for a long time with a “battery”, without having to actually change the “battery”. This energy is then sent through a quartz crystal and used to keep the watch running. To simplify this, when you move around, the capacitator will charge up. This is how the kinetic watch keeps track of time. Every time the quartz crystal has vibrated 32,768 times, the system knows, that a second has passed. A quartz crystal will receive energy, causing it to vibrate. The capacitator is connected to a quartz timekeeping mechanism. This capacitator will then slowly discharge, causing the watch hands to move. This pendulum will then spin a pinion (up to 100.000 RPM), which in turn will cause a small electrical generator to charge an energy storage device (the capacitator). When you swing your arm, shake your hand, or move around, a rotating pendulum will move around inside the watch. How Does a Kinetic Watch Work?Ī kinetic watch works by transforming motion energy into stored energy. Said in a simple way, it generates energy from movement (such as shaking your hand), and stores this energy in a capacitor. To answer how a kinetic watch works, we first need to learn what a kinetic watch is.Ī kinetic watch is often called an automatic quartz watch, as it combines the idea of creating energy from movement as seen in automatic movement, and the idea of storing energy as seen in quartz movement. 6/19/2023 0 Comments Cabin fever 2016 rottenRotten Tomatoes Critical Consensus: "'Resident Evil: Extinction' is more of the same its few impressive action sequences unable to compensate for the pedestrian plot." Complete utter garbage! Trevor Z directs.Account icon An icon in the shape of a person's head and shoulders. Too bad we couldn’t infect the movie with some sort of virus to eat it out of existence. It adds nothing to the mythology and offers only a cheap recreation of a superior picture. If you’re a fan of the 2002 film, don’t waste your time. The film almost tarnishes the original which is just now only becoming a MODERN classic. At least we can all choose to ignore the complete waste of garbage. No matter how much we complain and throw fits, remakes will still exist. I could just go on and on about how rotten this film is but you know what, I’m not. Every iconic moment from the original is basically tarnished in the remake. It’s mostly just a bunch of spraying blood. It’s toned down in the remake and doesn’t look all that good. Who here remembers the knarley special FX from the original, some fantastic and nauseating stuff. That’s all fine and dandy but they kept most of the character’s dialogue intact and played it straight, it doesn’t work. The standout exception was gender swapping Deputy Winston. The changes to the remake were so subtle, you barely even notice them. Without them, the film never would have worked and it’s completely apparent when watching the remake. Those characters worked so well in the 2002 film and the actors who portrayed them were like pieces of a puzzle. The acting in the picture is good but the issue lies within the lack of chemistry within the cast. It may have been the only time it worked in a Roth film (sorry folks, CABIN FEVER remains the only great film he’s ever directed, the rest aren’t so good). Many of us really enjoyed the off beat humor that was injected into that film. I can tell you right now one of the main factors this version doesn’t work is the fact it’s almost completely humorless. The locals want them gone and they just want some help, help that may never come. This sets off a chain of events that unleashes a flesh eating virus they begin to contract. He leaves the guy to die and goes back to the cabin, pretending nothing has happened. When he’s out there, he accidently shoots a man who appears to be suffering from some sort of infection. Everyone has their own priorities and Bert’s is to take his assault rifle out into the woods and give it a spin. The place is comfortable and the wilderness around them is breathtaking. Once they arrive, Jeff (Matthew Daddario), Karen (Gage Golightly), Paul (Samuel Davis), Marcy (Nadine Crocker), and Bert (Dustin Ingram) settle in rather quick. One of the locals warns them about staying out there but it falls on deaf ears. When they make a stop at a local general store, they quickly make enemies. The cabin they are staying at lies in a small town where the locals seem a bit off. So let me just get the story part out of the way.įive college friends have decided to get out of the city and head out for a weekend of booze, weed, and banging. Hey, look at me ranting already and I haven’t even started the review portion. Everything I enjoyed about the original is lost in this film. The screenplay was credited to original writers Eli Roth and Randy Pearlstein because they didn’t change anything! I’m really at a loss here and I have no clue as to why this film even exists. So doing a remake of the film, using the same script, to me sounds like nothing more than a quick cash grab. The original CABIN FEVER was released in 2002 so I’m not really sure it’s outdated yet. The point of doing a remake usually involves updating or contemporizing the source material for a new audience. Why? That one single-word question pretty much sums up my reaction to hearing of a CABIN FEVER remake. A group of five friends are terrorized at their getaway cabin. 6/19/2023 0 Comments Appcleaner for mac 10.7.5Make sure they aren’t eating up precious space on your Mac with this helpful app that does the legwork for you. Others applauded the Supreme Court, including the Ohio Coal Association, which also referenced the court's 9-0 decision that the federal government overstepped its authority regarding the Sacketts' specific situation. In an emailed statement, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said it is still reviewing the Supreme Court decision as to how it affects Ohio. Sasson also said that developers wouldn't have to provide mitigation when building on these sites, such as being required to replace a stream with another somewhere else. Some urban areas could see poorer stream quality downstream, he said, which could be affected by different water flow and temperature, he said. "What is the environmental outcome in removing ephemeral streams from protection?" he said. "And make no mistake: Congress wrote the statute it meant to," she wrote.Īnthony Sasson, a research associate with the Midwest Biodiversity Institute in Hilliard, said with the court's decision, ephemeral streams - which flow only after rains or with water from snowmelt - could be eliminated, perhaps some replaced with retention ponds. In a dissenting opinion, liberal Justice Elena Kagan wrote that the Clean Water Act spells out that the waters of the United States include wetlands adjacent to waters the act covers, and that adjacent not only means when it is touching but also nearby. "The wetlands on the Sacketts’ property are distinguishable from any possibly covered waters," it said. Alito Jr., writing for the conservative majority, said the court majority said the Clean Water Act extends to only those “wetlands with a continuous surface connection to bodies that are ‘waters of the United States’ in their own right,” so that they are “indistinguishable” from those waters. In a 5-4 decision on May 25, Justice Samuel J. The Sacketts sued the EPA, arguing that their property was not “waters of the United States.” The EPA ordered the Sacketts to restore the site, and threatened penalties of more than $40,000 per day. That prohibits discharging pollutants into "the waters of the United States." The EPA classified the wetlands as such because they were near a ditch that fed into a creek that fed into Priest Lake. Environmental Protection Agency told the Sacketts that their property had wetlands and that the backfilling violated the Clean Water Act. Supreme Court case, involved a couple, Michael and Chantell Sackett, who bought property near Priest Lake, Idaho, and began backfilling the lot with dirt for a new house. Melanie Houston, the group's managing director of water policy, said in a statement that without continued state protection or new federal protections, the Supreme Court’s decision opens the door for polluters to further degrade Ohio’s wetlands. More: Environmentalists wants Ohio EPA to ensure more Big Darby protections with sewage loans Swamps, bogs and marshes are not only safe havens for hundreds of migratory and endangered birds, but these wetlands are critical to reducing harmful algal blooms." This destructive ruling endangers our state’s remaining 10% of wetlands and puts Ohio’s 36,000 miles of rain-dependent streams at risk. "Ohio has already lost a shocking 90% of its wetlands.
